Warratina Lavender Farm is one of the Yarra Valley's most photographed places — row upon row of lavender running down a gentle slope, with the ranges rising behind it. It is a calm, unhurried spot, and an easy half-day trip from Sanctuary House.
When to visit
The lavender is at its most spectacular through the warmer months, when the rows turn deep purple and the whole property hums with bees. Summer is peak bloom and peak colour, so if you are staying with us over December or January this is the one to plan for. Outside bloom season the gardens, shop and café are still well worth the drive, and it is far quieter.
What to expect
Wander the rows at your own pace, then browse the farm shop, where the harvest is turned into oils, soaps, sachets, skincare and culinary lavender. The café is the other reason people come — lavender scones with jam and cream, and lavender ice cream that tastes far better than it sounds.
Making a day of it
The farm sits among orchards, berry farms and cellar doors, so it pairs naturally with a long lunch and a winery or two on the way back. Bring a hat and a camera — the light late in the afternoon is the best of the day.
Opening days and bloom timing vary with the season, so it is worth checking directly with the farm before you set out.
